Illuminate your workspace with a work light
A work light has several applications when you have practical or handy projects to take care of. Used as both job site lights or during your private home makeover. No matter if you need to do work outside on the house, paint the walls inside or get some other project that requires proper light, you can find a variety of durable and effective work lights at affordable prices right here.
Find the ideal work light for your needs
Are you unsure about which kind of work light suits your needs the best? You are far from alone. Work lights are available in many different editions, and each has its own uses and benefits - as well as limitations. To make as an enlightened decision as possible, you should account for a handful of key factors, such as:
-
Size
-
IP-rating
-
Light output
-
Colour temperature
-
Lighting source
Further down, we describe each factor in detail to hopefully help you make your decision a little easier when browsing our selection of work lamps.
Size
The ideal size for the work light depends on whether you need to light up a larger area, such as painting the walls in the living room or renovating the house on the outside, or you need to help you illuminate a focused area, such as inspecting your car or electrical instalments in the house.
Floodlights are ideal for illuminating a larger area, while inspection lamps are more suitable for focused lighting. The light spreading typically also influences if the work light is freestanding or hand-held. Naturally, inspection lamps tend to be hand-held to give you greater manoeuvrability when inspecting different parts.
Check the work light’s IP-rating
It is important to consider whether you intend to use the work lights as indoor or outdoor lighting primarily. That is because not all work lamps do well in various weather conditions. Therefore, you must check how well the work lamp is protected against solids and liquids, such as water or dust.
That is where the international IP-rating standard comes into play. It helps you classify the work light’s level of protection against solids and liquids. The rating is made up of two digits:
-
A number between 0-6, which defines the level of protection against solids
-
A number between 0-8, which defines the level of protection against liquids
For maximum protection against solids and liquids, a rating of IP68 is what to look for, but only on the rarest of occasions will it ever be necessary. If you expect a lot of dust to fly around, a good idea is to go for a work lamp with a rating of IP5X or above. If you intend to use the work light outdoors, it is recommended that you stick with a rating of at least IPX4, just to be on the safe side.
Light output and colour temperature
Lumen (Lm) and kelvin (K) are two scaling systems that are used to define the light output and colour temperature, respectively. Lumen helps you define the work lamp’s brightness, I.e., how much light you get from the light bulb. Traditionally, the light output was determined by watt, but with the increased availability and popularity of LED lighting, lumen has become the preferred determining method.
The scale is quite simple to follow: The higher the lumen, the brighter the light and vice versa, the lower the lumen, the dimmer the light. As for working lights, you mostly want a light with a higher lumen.
As for kelvin, it helps you determine the colour temperature of the light. The lower the kelvin, the warmer the light you get, while a higher kelvin makes for a colder light temperature. A lamp with 1000 K gives the same warm light effect as a lit candle, while a lamp with 10.000 K represents the colour of a clear blue sky. For working lights, your best option is to go for a neutral or slightly cold white light, which is about 4000-6500 K.
Why buy a LED work light?
Many newer work lights use LED as the light source. There are multiple good reasons behind that. LED light technology has several advantages compared to more traditional light sources, such as halogen, fluorescent or incandescent bulbs. LED technology is rapidly advancing year by year while also becoming a more affordable choice. As such, it has become the preferred light source for modern lighting.
By choosing LED work lights, you can enjoy a more cost-effective and energy-efficient light source compared to traditional light bulbs. They also use up to 90% less energy than incandescent lights while also keeping heat emission at a minimal level - no risk of harming yourself when you come in contact with the light.
LED work lights are generally also quite durable, and you will likely be able to place them in more demanding environments. One last thing, LED lights also have a rather long life span and can last you up to 100,000 hours of continuous use. Naturally, we have focused our selection of work lights on LEDs as they are undeniably the most popular and beneficial choice, no matter the situation.
At vidaXL, you can also find rechargeable LED work lights that provide rich position flexibility for when you want to adjust the work light as they are cordless.
